How Myopia Control Works

Myopia can be detected during childhood as the eye grows and vision develops. Regularly scheduled eye exams can help monitor your child’s vision development and check for signs of developing myopia.

Myopia develops when the eye is too long, or the cornea has too much curvature. This irregular curvature causes light to not focus properly on the retina.

Multifocal Glasses & Contact Lenses

Multifocal lenses contain 2 or more prescriptions for correcting vision at different distances. Multifocal lenses are excellent for helping people see well at various distances and are a popular myopia control method.

Multifocal lenses are designed to help your child see clearly at distance with a separate prescription to focus at near. This lesser power at near can alleviate eye strain and prevents your child’s prescription from increasing too quickly.

Multifocal lenses are available in both eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Vision Therapy

Vision therapy is a personalized treatment program that is administered by your eye doctor to address conditions like strabismus (crossed eyes) or amblyopia (lazy eye). But vision therapy can also help some children who have myopia.

Vision therapy works to develop and strengthen your child’s visual skills, such as eye focusing. By developing their visual skills, we can help your child manage their myopia.
